Overview of Domestic and International Industrial Valve Product Standard Systems

2024-12-04

The main international industrial valve standards are primarily divided into two major systems: the CLASS series valve standard system represented by the American ASME-API-MSSAWWA, and the PN series valve standard system represented by the European EN-DIN-BS. Within the ASME-API-MSS-AWWA CLASS series valve standard system, it can be further divided into the standard series centered around ASME B16.34 and the heavy-duty valve standard series centered around API600, which is applicable to the heavy chemical industry fields such as petroleum, natural gas, and petrochemicals.

In the aforementioned American CLASS series valve standard system and the European PN series valve standard system, the CLASS series valve standard system is more comprehensive, systematic, and extensive in its coverage. In particular, the API series of valves within the CLASS series is more familiar to China's petroleum, natural gas, and petrochemical industries, serving as the preferred valve standard in engineering construction. At the same time, the API series of valve standards also serves as the basis for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to develop valve standards for the petroleum, natural gas, and petrochemical industries.

Therefore, in recent years, when formulating China's GB-JB valve standards, the CLASS series valve standard system represented by ASME-API-MSSAWWA has also been taken as the main basis.

China's GB-JB standards for valve main components and cast steel materials also primarily refer to the ASTM standards for valve components and cast steel materials. However, for a long time, the PN series valve standards have had a long history of use and a broad market in China's municipal, public utilities, and industrial sectors. To this day, in domestic machinery, metallurgy, traditional chemical, light industry, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, municipal, and public utility fields, the PN series valve standards are predominantly used. Therefore, when formulating China's GB-JB valve standards, while referring to and adopting the CLASS series valve standard system, the PN series has also been integrated, especially for cast iron, ductile iron, and non-ferrous metal valve standards, which are mainly based on the PN series.
